CALCULATIONS | A pack of coyotes tries to decipher the complex geometry of mother movement in relation to calf hiding strategy as female elk watches nervously nearby. Older coyotes watch mother longer before starting their search for hidden calves. This pack, mostly of juvelines, was too impatient. After 30 min of haphazard search they gave up. The calf will have a second life -- at one point a coyote passed within 10 m of it.
